Hijab Info
Hijab in Arabic means “barrier” or “screen” and in the context of a Muslim women it means ‘modest dress for women” which Islamically is defined as covering everything except for the face and hands in public. Modesty is a key feature of the Islamic faith
Wearing the headscarf and loose clothings is a part of hijab. Islam teaches that complete hijab, besides the given requirements of clothing, also includes the moral conduct, behavior, attitude, and intention of the individual
It is common myth in Western media that covering up according to Islam is oppressing women as though women are a threat to men who can’t hold themselves back. But as Muslim students or professionals who choose to wear the hijab, hijab is much more than that. It is a freedom of expression
Hijab shows the identity of a Muslima and how proud we are of it. Muslim women hold the hijab dearly to their hearts just as any women who love wearing beautiful clothes of their choice and proud of their identity portrayed by their outlooks
Hijab is a command from God and their obedience to their Lord is the mark of their true faith. In the Quran, God says “There is no compulsion in religion. The right direction is distinct from error..” (Baqarah: 256) Hence, the hijab is a beautiful choice made by Muslim women who wants to practise their religion and obeying Allah swt and doing what He tells them to do in Quran
It is important to remember that the purpose of hijab is not to cut women out from participating in society or to keep men and women segregated or to make life hard for women. Rather the purpose of hijab is to empower Muslim women by maintaining their dignity and honor as free individuals and help them fulfill their duties in life smoothly and comfortably.
